'We want to win the double' - Hancock
"WE'RE going all out for the win" declares New Mills AFC manager Tony Hancock ahead of Saturday's eagerly-anticipated Vodkat League Premier Division title decider.
New Mills go into the top-of-the-table clash against AFC Fylde on the back of a record-breaking 21-game winning streak in the league.
But with the Millers sitting pretty at the summit - three points clear of the Lancashire club - they need only to avoid defeat to be crowned champions and guarantee back-to-back promotions into the UniBond League - a club first.
"To lose after winning 21 games on the bounce would be a disaster, so we have got to approach the game in a calm, confident manner and just hope that little bit of lady luck goes our way," explained Hancock.
"But I have never won 21 games on the trot either as a player or a manager, and I am sure I will never do it again. It has just been an unbelievable run.
"We have a full strength squad available and the lads want to do the double."
New Mills played their final home game of the season at Church Lane on Saturday; the 1-0 win over Ashton Athletic extending a winning league run which dates back to January 17. Their previous league defeat was against rivals Glossop North End on Boxing Day.
Hancock, who has just collected the Premier Division Manager of the Month award for April, admitted: "We had a bit of an indifferent start to the season and a lot of injuries. Just before Christmas, Fylde were 11 points clear of us with a game in hand, but now we have managed to claw that back and we are three points clear of them going into Saturday.
"In football you need continuity. We have played three times a week on average, for two months, and you would think that would eventually catch up with us, but the training by Paul Kirkham my assistant has been fantastic. Fitness levels are peeking and it just hasn't affected us.
"The weather has been kind over the past six weeks and we have managed to get the games on at Church Lane and we have had the continuity, and that has been an important part of our success so far this season.
"Overall, it has been a massive team effort; from the chairman to the tea lady, from the supporters to the back room staff, everybody has assisted the club."
