Reed signs for a year

BUXTON FC fans favourite Mark Reed has signed a contract to stay with the club for another year.

The prolific striker, who has scored 25 goals this season, including some for Cammell Laird, has now committed to the club until the end of the 2009/10 season.

Delighted Buxton manager John Reed said: "Its probably the best news I've had since I joined the club to be honest. We all know what people think of him and the fans adore him.

"The lad has had a fantastic second half of the season, he's scored goals and played extremely well. For me he is one of the best strikers in the league. It will be interesting to see how he and Gav Knight compete for goals next season."

On Saturday, Buxton wrapped up their league campaign with a 3-2 defeat at Kendal Town, with the win seeing the home side seal a place in the play offs.

With safety in the league already secured, Reed rested Gregg Anderson, Scott Maxfield and Gav Knight but with the Bucks 2-0 down after just over 25 minutes, the trio were later brought on as substitutes.

Reed explained: "After 25 minutes when we were two down I put the lads on and the game was transformed.

Welcoming Mark Reed's new contract, Buxton FC chairman Tony Tomlinson urged fans to back the club, saying: "We want a successful team and we now need fans to back us by purchasing season tickets or joining Mega Bucks."
