Hunters couldn’t track down vital goal

BUXTON Town and Hunters Bar fought out a goalless draw on Saturday which didn’t really help either team in their quest to stay in the Premier Division.
The game was played in excellent spirit with both teams giving their all for their respective managers.
Town kicked up the hill in the first half and had the first good chance when Matt Bagguley picked out the run of Mark Harris. With Dom Taylor waiting for a simple tap in Harris decided to go for goal himself and brought a great save out of Nobby Clark.
Hunters Bar then created a number of good chances as they got themselves into the game and had Town on the back foot and Aaron Connell, who was outstanding throughout, delivered a superb corner into the box which Chris Waters met at the far post, but his attempt was inches wide.
Gary Hobdey in the Town goal had to be alert as several dangerous balls were delivered into the area with Jon Brailey rolling back the years with a mazy run down the left forcing Hobdey to punch his cross away and then Dipo Ola forced the keeper into a good save before Ola again had a shot from outside the area, which flew over the bar.
Back came Town with Clark just beating Lee Smith to a cross from a Harris corner before Smith’s looping cross from the right almost dropped in the net.
Mike Makoni and Craig Owen were always a threat but the Bar back four were excellent as they kept a close eye on the pacy frontmen.
James Wilding made a great tackle to deny Jack Revell and Hobdey then pushed another shot away from Revell.
Town were happy to go in all square at the break in a half which Bar shaded but it was the home side who dominated the second half with the main threat coming from the delivery of Harris who sent in some excellent free kicks and corners.
Matt Stanway was superb all game and he came so close to netting from an outrageous overhead kick only to see his effort met with an equally good save from Clark, who tipped the ball away for another corner.
Makoni then turned in the box and looked certain to score as his shot beat Clark but this time the ball rebounded back into play off the crossbar.
As Town pushed an extra man forward in search of a winner they had two great chances when first Nathan Wood picked out Bagguley at the far post but he sliced his shot wide before Bagguley again had a good chance which went begging.
Will Lee saw his free-kick saved by Hobdey as the game swung one way then the other and Hobdey again made a good save following good work from Connell.
Owen saw Clark save his shot in the last few minutes before the game was brought to an end with both sides feeling they could have taken all three points but both managers will be happy with the effort put in by their players in a well fought contest.
