Hancock named manager of the year

NEW MILLS AFC manager Tony Hancock has been named the Vodkat League's Premier Division Manager of the Year for the 2008/09 season.

Under Hancock's leadership last season, the Church Lane club finished joint top of the Premier Division with 104 points, scoring 92 goals in the process.

The club also embarked on a 21-game winning run in the Vodkat Premier Division – a league and club record.

This was only brought to an end on the last day of the season by AFC Fylde, who pipped the Millers to the championship on goal difference.

Hancock has also guided New Mills to the Vodkat League Cup this season, beating Runcorn 2-0 in the final.

Club secretary Duncan Hibbert said everyone at the club congratulated Hancock on his award.

* New Mills youth team manager Steve Kennedy has been appointed as the club's new reserve team manager.

He will manage the side in its inaugural season in The Cheshire Building Society Cheshire Football League next season, while continuing to oversee the development of the youth team.
