Dawson moves into Footbal League

RADCLIFFE Borough's 18-year-old central defender Craig Dawson has signed for his home town, Football League side Rochdale, in a transfer that will see Borough pocket some much needed cash together with the usual add-ons.

Dawson's rise is most definitely a case of rags to riches in footballing terms as former Borough Chairman Bernard Manning Jnr brought the youngster to the club after watching him play in local football with his own son.

Director of Football Gerry Lucza said: "People forget he is only 18 as he is such a class act and he will only get better with full time training.

"He has gone from being a raw recruit to one of the best 18-year-olds I have seen playing at this level."

Manning added: "I have watched him since he was 10-years-old and he always stood out.

"He had trials at clubs and I was very surprised that nothing came of it but he has come on in leaps and bounds since joining us with the transformation coming about when the management staff moved him from midfield to central defence."

The player, meanwhile, returned immediately to Radcliffe on loan.
