Cup win soothes league heartache

Vodkat League Cup Final New Mills AFC 2, Runcorn Linnets 0 played at the Tameside Stadium NEW MILLS AFC ended their season on a high note by beating Runcorn Linnets to lift the Vodkat League Cup on Tuesday evening.

First half goals from Scott McGowan and Garry Kharas gave the Millers a comfortable 2-0 win at the Tameside Stadium.

It comes after Saturday's humbling 5-0 defeat by AFC Fylde - which ended New Mills' 21-game unbeaten run in the Vodkat Premier Division and cost them the league title and promotion to the UniBond League.

The cup final also marks manager Tony Hancock's last game in charge, after he tendered his resignation at the weekend due to increasing personal and work commitments.
