Cup glory for the Millers

NEW MILLS went ahead after just six minutes against Runcorn Linnets in the Vodkat Challenge Cup Final at a blustery Tameside Stadium on Monday night.

The opening goal was scored by Scott McGowan.

The Millers doubled their advantage in the 29th minute, through Garry Kharas.

The Millers were always in control, although the Linnets gave a valiant performance in the second half especially, but couldn't find the net.

Millers star man and skipper Carlos Meakin – leading goalscorer this campaign – is pictured with the trophy presented by the League chairman David Tomlinson.

New Mills Manager Tony Hancock said: "I'm pleased for the lads. It wasn't hard to pick them up after Saturday because of the characters they are. To go 21 games unbeaten and then have Fylde happen, I think showed it wasn't to be our day,. But I spoke to them all before the final and told them to make sure they got something for all their hard work this season."
