‘Cracking draw’ for Buxton in FA Trophy
BUXTON FC chairman Tony Tomlinson has described his club’s FA Trophy fixture at Grimsby Town as a “cracking draw”.
The Bucks will make their first-ever visit to Blundell Park on Saturday November 24 when they take on The Mariners in the first round proper of the Carlsberg-sponsored competition.
Tomlinson said: “It’s a cracking draw for all concerned. We could hardly have been set a tougher task but that was the case at Fleetwood two years ago and their winner came only in the 95th minute.
“I would like to thank our people for their support at Guiseley and Stamford and I’m sure they will enjoy our first visit to Grimsby, but before that we need them to turn up in force at the Silverlands on Saturday (versus Kendal Town) - we want to be in a good league position for the second half of the season.”
A second-tier club until only a decade ago, Grimsby sit currently in second place in the Blue Square Bet Premier, but have suffered three home defeats.
Their side includes several personnel known to Silverlands watchers, namely centre-backs Nathan Pond (ex-Fleetwood) and Shaun Pearson (ex-Boston United), striker Ross Hannah (ex-Matlock) and managers Paul Hurst and Rob Scott (previously Ilkeston Town and Boston United). Among their list of previous managers is former Buxton boss Nicky Law.
Tomlinson added: “I do hope everyone appreciates the excellent achievements of the players, management and staff in doing so well in this season’s cup ties, despite having been drawn away from home every time except one.
“It’s rare for a club at our level to do so well in both FA competitions in the same season, so Martin (McIntosh) and his team deserve particular credit, and it would give everyone a lift if more of our missing supporters returned to the Silverlands.”
Admission prices for the Trophy tie at Blundell Park will be at a reduced rate of £10 (£5 concessions).
Buxton will be running coaches to the FA Trophy tie at Grimsby Town on November 24.
Full details are yet to be announced, but people can register their interest in the club shop at Saturday’s home game against Kendal or by calling Mark on 07805 534 143.
l Following the Kendal fixture, the Bucks begin a run of four consecutive midweek away fixtures with a trip to Nantwich Town on Tuesday November 20 (kick-off 7.45pm).
McIntosh’s side are scheduled to travel to Rushall Olympic on Tuesday November 27, Stafford Rangers on Tuesday December 4 and Alfreton Town on Tuesday December 11, the latter in the third round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
Admission prices for the Senior Cup tie at Alfreton have been fixed at £10 (£5 concessions).
l Mark Reed’s two goals at Stamford on Saturday see him top Buxton’s scoring chart with eight for the season, one ahead of Lee Morris and two ahead of the injured Kyle Nix.
