MANAGER John Reed believes an in-form Buxton FC side should fear no-one in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
Following a disappointing defeat at Bradford, the Bucks returned to winning ways with successive away wins at Chasetown and Burscough which have moved the promotion-chasers back into the top-six, with games in hand over the teams above them.
And ahead of Saturday’s tricky-looking league clash at Kendal Town (kick-off 3pm), boss Reed said: “It will be a very difficult game, but Kendal are no different to anybody else.
“We are going to make it very difficult for ourselves if we don’t turn up on the day, but if we perform the same way we did at Chasetown and Burscough then I don’t fear anybody. I’ve got enough in that squad, just as long as we do not pick up any injuries.”
The manager was delighted with his team’s performance in the 2-1 win over Burscough last weekend. A Michael Towey header and a stunning solo goal by Mark Reed, both coming in the space of four second-half minutes, cancelled out Darren Byers’ 49th-minute opener for the home team.
“It was another great performance, although not quite as good as against Chasetown,” Reed admitted. “We worked extremely hard, competed for the tackles and looked strong in defence. Gregg Anderson in particular was outstanding.
“We got caught cold at the start of the second half, but that just spurred us on and we then enjoyed probably a 25-minute spell where we looked completely unplayable and could have gone 5-1 up.
“After that, for the last ten minutes, we were put under a lot of pressure, but the defence and central midfield really dug in.”
Buxton return to the Silverlands next Wednesday (February 23, kick-off 7.45pm) to face Stocksbridge Park Steels in the league.
In other fixture news, the home game with Northwich Victoria has been brought forward 24 hours and will now be played on Tuesday March 1 (kick-off 7.45pm).
The home clash with Ashton United will take place on Tuesday March 22 (kick-off 7.45pm), while the home game against Burscough will be played on Friday March 25 (kick-off 7.45pm) to avoid clashing with the Wales v England match on the Saturday.
