New Mills’ Primary School footballers came away with a medal at the recent under-11 Mini Soccer County Finals in Ilkeston.
The squad, which comprised of eight year 5 and 6 boys, were representing the High Peak area after coming through the qualifying process.
There were ten schools from across Derbyshire playing in the two groups stages.
New Mills drew two of their group stage matches and won the other two, ensuring they went through to the semi-final stage unbeaten.
In the semi-final they met the winners of the other group and despite a great effort, they narrowly went down 2-0.
Their final clash of the day was the third/fourth place play-off.
Determined to come away with a medal, the New Mills’ players applied the perfect attitude on their way to a 2-0 success.
The boys’ efforts mean this is the furthest any team from the school has ever progressed in one of these events.
The team: Billy Chadwick, Jamie Corbett, Alex Duncan, Noah Gell, Oliver Kilner, Nathan Lees, Kit Maddox & Emrys Williams.
