A group of young New Mills Juniors’ players were treated to a day of training at the home of Barclays Premier League Champions Manchester City.
The day was organised by Millers’ coach Dan Greaves and the team from Manchester City’s ‘City in the Community’ scheme.
The youngsters enjoyed a two-hour session at the state-of-the-art complex as they were put through their paces by club coaches.
Amongst the senior players who took part were star midfielder Samir Nasri, new Brazilian signing Fernando and Dutch defender Karim Rekik.
The trio joined in the session and also stayed behind to sign autographs for the youngsters.
Also present was Elite Development Squad manager and World Cup winner Patrick Vieira, City assistant manager Brian Kidd and Sir Geoff Hurst. New Mills were also interviewed for national television in preparation for the Community Shield, with two youngsters interviewed by BT Sport as part of the pre-match build-up to last weekend’s match, which City lost 3-0 to Arsenal at Wembley.
Dan Greaves says the day was a hugely memorable occasion.
He said: “The day was a huge success, with all the juniors thoroughly enjoying their experience.
“We train at the Etihad Complex during holidays with the coaches from City, but today was extra special as we got to mix with some of the Premier League’s top players.
“It was a fantastic day for players and parents and I’d like to say a huge thanks to Manchester City, from all at New Mills Juniors for a memorable day.”
