AFTER suffering another blank footballing weekend, New Mills AFC will be hoping for better luck this weekend when they travel to Evo-Stik First Division South promotion-chasers Ilkeston FC.
The fixture against fellow Derbyshire side Ilkeston, which will be played at The New Manor Ground (kick-off 3pm), is followed by the start of a tough sequence of midweek away fixtures, beginning on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm) with a visit to the world’s oldest football club, Sheffield FC.
However, there will be some football action for Church Lane regulars on Saturday as New Mills Reserves entertain North West Counties League Reserve Division leaders Wigan Robin Park (kick-off 3pm).
l Last weekend, both of New Mills AFC’s matches were postponed as a result of the continuing cold weather conditions.
After consultation with Evo-Stik League officials, special dispensation was granted to enable the first team’s home game against Sutton Coldfield Town to be postponed on Friday lunchtime.
It was an inevitable outcome with the playing surface at Church Lane being frozen solid and the early decision ensured that no unnecessary journeys were made.
Later on in the day, news filtered through that it was a similar situation at The Silentnight Stadium where the reserves had been due to travel to play Barnoldswick Town.
