Buxton boss Martin McIntosh has praised new defender Greg Young’s performances since arriving at the club.

McIntosh moved quickly to sign the former Grimsby Town and Alfreton man, making him one of the first signings of the summer.

Ahead of Saturday’s friendly visit of FC Halifax Town, one of Young’s former clubs, McIntosh says the defender’s qualities have been there for all to see during pre-season.

He said: “Greg’s a good player. He’s played at a higher level and I think in the games he’s played he has looked magnificent.

“He’s a good speaker, a good leader and he has experience.”

The centre-half has established a sound partnership with Ash Palmer at the heart of defence during his short time at the club.

McIntosh believes that Young can play an important role in Palmer’s development next season.

He added: “I think him (Greg) and Ash Palmer can be a great pairing.

“Ash was outstanding last season, one of the best in the league, and I think Greg can help him by playing alongside him.”
