Hope Valley League Premier Division

Tideswell Utd 4, Buxton Town 1

TIDESWELL continued their impressive start to the season as they took maximum points against Buxton Town.

Town started the brighter of the two sides and Mark Harris had the best chance of the opening exchanges but flashed his shot past Stanway’s far post.

On 15 minutes United showed their new-found ruthless side as they took the lead. Rhys Hanson delivered a superb ball across the six-yard box for Nick Wilson to thrash home.

Ten minutes later a second goal arrived as captain Dean Morris latched onto Wilson’s delightful through ball to finish superbly.

Town continued to battle on but lost instrumental playmaker Jack Prescott after a heavy challenge from Fraser Bloor.

United added a third after good work from Wilson found dangerman Rick Whyatt, whose perfect cross was smashed home by Rhys Hanson. After the break, Damian Wray saw a header superbly saved by James Barber and another fly over the crossbar, before Town pulled a goal back as another mix-up in the United back line gave makeshift striker Jamie Beagley the chance to score.

Jack Barton will be disappointed his free header from six yards went straight into the hands of Barber.

Paul Sullivan came on as a substitute after 15 months spent on the sidelines recovering from a career-threatening knee injury, and it took him just eight minutes to open his account after being picked out by Whyatt.

In the final few minutes, Town full-back Will Berry was given his marching orders to compound Town’s day.

Tideswell: J Stanway, S Baker, A Swanson, J Muir (F Bloor), D Morris, L Robinson, N Wilson, R Green (J Barton), D Wray, R Whyatt, R Hanson (P Sullivan). Markovitz Man of the Match: Rhys Hanson.

* United’s second string stayed 12 points clear at the top of the B Division with a 2-1 victory away at Eyam. Matt Clayton levelled up the game before Tim Crespin hit the winner.
