Whaley Bridge Reserves 3, Tideswell United 2

WHALEY Bridge just came out ahead in this thrilling top-of-the-table clash.

For the first half hour, the game was evenly poised until a superb Tom Nadin free-kick, from well outside the area, flew into the Tideswell net.

Minutes later, a long throw from Whaley’s Jon Shenton bobbled around the penalty area until Andrew Atkins slid the ball home and Whaley were good value for their 2-0 lead.

However, Whaley relaxed and paid the price as Tideswell responded immediately via a superbly taken goal from Nick Wilson, making the score 2-1 at the break.

Tideswell were on top in the second half and equalised through a Damian Wray header.

Chasing victory, both sides upped their game and there were plenty of goal-mouth incidents but a draw was looking the most likely result as the game entered the final 15 minutes.

After a delay due to an injury, Tideswell were undone by another long throw from Jon Shenton that was dropped by the keeper and Mike Grindey was on hand to poke it home.
