North West Counties League Premier Division
Glossop North End 0, Bootle 1
GLOSSOP North End hit a stumbling block in the league after losing 1-0 at home to Bootle on Saturday.
The Hillmen were frustrated by an impressive Bootle side, and a goal from Ross McDowell settled it for the away side.
It was a game of very few chances for North End with a Sam Hind header the only time David Molan’s goal was threatened in the first half.
After the interval, both teams looked more threatening and Daniel Yates nearly opened the scoring with a header from a Steve Heaton cross but his effort crept just over the bar.
The deadlock was eventually broken by the away side and it was courtesy of McDowell. Right-back for Bootle Mark Kilroy whipped a ball in for the striker who powered his header past Ashley Frith.
The Bucks were close to doubling their lead and killing off the game, but Lee Thompson could only divert his half-volley onto the post.
Glossop applied late pressure but were unable to conjure any notable chances to level the scores.
The Hillmen will now focus their attentions on the derby clash against New Mills in the Manchester Premier Cup on Wednesday night. North End won the previous encounter, dumping the Millers out of the High Peak Cup in pre-season.
