Hillmen flattened

Bacup 3, Glossop North End 0

Glossop North End were brought back down to earth following their 7-1 thumping of Flixton after losing 3-0 to Bacup Borough on Saturday.

The Hillmen weren’t at home amongst the Bacup Hills and struggled to get used to the conditions of a slow and rough pitch. Two early goals in the space of five minutes effectively won the game for the home side in the drizzle at the Brian Boys West View Stadium.

Bacup’s opening goal was something to be remembered for the home fans as Adrian Bellamy smashed the ball into Joe Boyle’s top corner from the corner of the box.

The home side’s lead was doubled within minutes courtesy of Kingsley Williams. Good work from full-back Aaron Walters on the left produced a ball that swung in to a grateful Williams who nodded it past the Glossop keeper.

North End struggled to keep the ball on the floor in the first half and were lucky to go into the interval only 2-0 down, Boyle making a combination of saves to deny Williams and Matthew Hampson respectively.

Glossop were much more improved after the break and posed more of a threat to the Bacup goal.Bacup finished the game off in the 89th minute when Martin Cosgrave beat Kelvin Lugsden to the ball and rifled past Boyle at his near post for Borough’s third.

The Hillmen were due to face a North West Counties League match against Congleton Town at Surrey Street on Wednesday night.
