BUXTON Junior Football Club Under-13s entered two teams into the popular annual football festival in Matlock.

One of the Buxton teams won their competition outright, beating Matlock 3-1 in the final, while the second lost out to Matlock 5-4 on penalties in the semi-final.

Both teams played attractive attacking football throughout, with the victorious ‘B’ team never losing a game and only conceding in the final.

In a close final, Matlock took the lead but Buxton battled back, and after good work from Ben Bagshaw the equaliser was scored by the impressive Luke Lindley.

At the back, Jack Haddon was superb in goal, well protected throughout by Rhys Bowen, Alfie Scott and Joseph Latham.

Lyndon Caven Smith showed great speed and skill up front, taking the game to Matlock.

As the lads tired in the sun, the superior fitness of the Buxton lads began to shine through. Ollie Box then stole the show with two pieces of individual skill, the first a fine low drive into the bottom corner, and the second a brilliant run as he danced his way through the entire Matlock defence before coolly slotting under the keeper.
