FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Glossop North End 0, Louth Town 0
GLOSSOP North End face a midweek trip to Lincolnshire after Saturday’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Louth Town ended in a goalless stalemate.
With Sensale and D. McGregor both named in the starting XI, this strike pair looked to press forward from the off, but the through balls did not find their target on too many occasions, and with 30 minutes played only Proctor in the Glossop net had been called into action.
Finally, on 32 minutes, Glossop’s best chance of the half arrived when a neat flick from Sensale saw McGregor’s cross-shot send the away keeper flailing only to see the ball clear the post.
Into the second half and Glossop looked to press forward from the off, forcing a series of corners but to no avail. A string of substitutions ensued, and still the killer ball couldn’t be found.
In the final minutes, and with the irrepressible Sam Marshall having been introduced, the home side pressed and pressed but the stubborn Louth defence stood tall.
It was then that in the 90th minute-plus, that the Hillmen had a chance to snatch victory. The catalyst, strangely, was a Louth attack that ended with the shot hitting Proctor’s post and bouncing out to safety. The home side swept forward only for the final shot to blaze wide.
And even later than that, a final Glossop attack ended with the ball being cleared from inside the six-yard box over the Louth bar by one of their own.
