WHALEY Bridge are set to make history this weekend with their first-ever appearance in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
On Saturday (kick-off 2pm), Whaley will entertain Central Midlands League Southern Division side Belper United in the Preliminary Round.
This will be Whaley’s first appearance in the county’s senior cup competition, and follows recent success in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup, which they won three times between 2009 and 2011.
Chairman Steve Rampley said: “I think this is an iconic moment for Whaley Bridge Athletic FC and represents the culmination of an awful lot of hard work both on and off the pitch by some very dedicated personnel.”
Added manager Darryl Hall: “The experience will be invaluable for the development of our younger players, but we also have several experienced players well equipped for this level of football.”
Victory against Belper would secure Whaley an away draw in the next round at South Normanton Athletic.
