A BUXTON footballer has been given the honour of playing for his county.

St Thomas More School year 11 pupil Josh Broadbent has been chosen to player for the Derbyshire under-16s team.

The goalkeeper, from New Mills, was picked after attending trials at Lea Green earlier this month.

Sports co-ordinator and PE teacher, Antony Gray, said: “When you think of all of the big schools in Derbyshire, it is a huge achievement to be selected to play for your county.

“It follows on from some very good results as part of the under-15s squad last year.”

Another pupil, Ben Obiora, played for Derbyshire last season but missed this year’s trials, and must now wait to see if he has retained his place.
