AFTER weeks of mild weather, winter returned with a bang on Saturday as plunging temperatures forced the cancellation of many of the area’s sporting fixtures.
Games involving the area’s three non-league sides, Buxton FC, New Mills AFC and Glossop North End, were all postponed due to frozen pitches.
Of the games that went ahead, New Mills Reserves beat Cheadle Town Reserves 2-1, while in the Cheshire League Whaley Bridge FC booked their place in the league cup final with a 3-1 win over Moore United. Chapel Town’s Manchester League match against Woodley Sports Reserves succumbed to the weather.
And only a handful of Hope Valley League games beat the weather, among them Eyam beating Furness Vale Reserves 4-3 in a thriller.
