THE b2net Stadium - the home of Chesterfield FC - is to host the end-of-season Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup final between Buxton and Derby County.
The meeting - a repeat of the 2011 final which Nigel Clough’s side won 5-0 - will take place on Wednesday April 25. A kick-off time is yet to be finalised.
Buxton secured a place in their third final in four seasons last Wednesday when they beat fellow strugglers Mickleover Sports 4-3 on penalties, ensuring new Bucks boss Martin McIntosh’s managerial career at the Silverlands got off to a winning start.
McIntosh said: “I was thoroughly delighted with the players’ workrate and their application. I think definitely, over the course of the game, we made the most chances and deserved to win by two or three goals at least. Looking back on it, they (Mickleover) only really had one half chance from which they scored.
“In extra time you could see their lads were flagging a bit, but I didn’t see that from ours. When it got to penalties it was a bit of a lottery, and I wouldn’t criticise anyone for missing a penalty, but Scott Hartley did very well. He is such a big frame and made some great stops.”
Derby saw off New Mills AFC 4-1 at Belper Town’s Christchurch Meadow in last week’s other semi-final.
Information on ticket prices for the April 25 final will be released shortly.
