OVER 200 spectators turned out on a cold Friday evening in New Mills for a charity football game in memory of Buxworth teenager Ben Obiora.
The game at New Mills AFC’s Church Lane ground, between two of Ben’s former teams St Thomas More Catholic School Under-16s and New Mills Under-16s, raised over £1,000 for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
St Thomas More School ran out eventual 6-1 winners. After a fairly even opening 25 minutes, a goal from Oliver Toseland gave St Thomas More the lead at half-time.
The school side increased their lead with a headed goal from Ciaran Reynolds, and further goals from Andrew Ramwell, Dan Cowan (2) and Dan Gilbride followed.
New Mills continued to search for a goal and following long periods of possession and pressure finally got their breakthrough with a late goal from Jack Hulse.
