Buxton cruise into next round

LFC Buxton 8.................................

Belper Town Ladies 2...................

BUXTON cruised into the second round of the Challenge Cup with their best performance of the season.

Danie Gartside added two goals, albeit fortuitously, as first a shot from the edge of the box caught a wicked deflection to send the keeper the wrong way, then she scored direct from a corner.

The game was pretty much over after 25 minutes as Diane Milner and Hodgkinson made it 5-0, with stand-in goalkeeper Nic Riley a virtual spectator behind the solid defence of Mel Owen, Rebecca Beresford, Natalie Beresford and Katie Howe.

Milner met Faye Barton’s excellent left-wing cross to make it 6-0 just 30 seconds into the second half.

Belper pulled a goal back with a fine strike from their captain, but Gartside restored Buxton’s advantage with a strike from the edge of the penalty area and player of the match Gartside completed her hat-trick following another great cross by Barton.

Belper netted their second goal and had a penalty saved by Riley.
