Buxton Town 5, Furness Vale 1
THIS game started with an impeccable minute’s silence for Dave Wilshaw, a regular follower of various teams in the Hope Valley League, who sadly passed away last Wednesday evening.
Despite Town starting the game rather sloppily, the outstanding Jace Broome picked out the run of Joe Burgess with an excellent pass, Burgess rounded Stuart Lumbert and the keeper sent him tumbling, resulting in a 13th minute penalty which was tucked away by Jack Grindey.
Town soon added to their lead when Broome popped up on the right wing and dug out a good cross which saw Joe Burgess head into the net from close range.
The game then turned into the Lumbert show as the veteran Furness keeper pulled off a string of outstanding saves to keep the score respectable.
Burgess made amends for a previous miss as Grindey picked him out and Burgess this time hammered his shot home.
The player completed his hat-trick in the second half when George Burgess did all the spade work before Joe tapped home at the back post.
Broome then delivered another excellent cross with his weaker right foot which Smith met on the volley and fired into the net.
Furness scored a consolation goal in stoppage time as Declan Dunne hit a long-range effort which took a wicked deflection off the head of James Mallaband and looped over Gartside.
Buxton: Gartside, Mirams, Ball, Mallaband, Harris, G Burgess (Haworth), Broome, Grindey, Clark (Heathcote), J Burgess (Smith), Moss. Man of the Match: Richard Mirams.
