Bulls lock horns in cup quarter-final

IT WAS quarter-final day for Buxton Taverners League sides in the Charles Lynch Cup last weekend.

Pyegrove saw Glossop Old Bulls and Bulls Head lock horns in a game that went to extra time.

League leaders Glossop found themselves 2-0 down at home to seventh-placed Bulls Head, Ant Hunter scoring twice, but two penalties from Tom O’Brien brought the sides level at full-time.

Glossop had the momentum and goals from Luke Taylor and Mike Doyle made it 4-2 to the home side. However, Bulls Head pulled one back through Craig Owen and continued to press to the final whistle.

On Kents Bank, Athletico Rag entertained Howard Arms on a bumpy pitch. Both teams struggled to settle but the deadlock was broken when Pete Cope hit a speculative shot which glanced in off the far post. Rhys Hansen made it 2-0 just before half-time, rising unchallenged at the far post to place a neat header into the top corner.

In the second half Rhys Hansen finished off a neat move to make it 3-0 before a wonder strike from man of the match Josh Westmereland completed the 4-0 scoreline.
