Buxton FC 0
Colwyn Bay 0
BUXTON had to share the points with fellow play-off contenders Colwyn Bay on Saturday.
Both teams had enough chances to seal a win as the game swung first one way then the other. In the closing stages it was Colwyn who went closest to snatching three points, forcing four corners in added time.
But fortunately Buxton’s defence, missing both captain Gregg Anderson and Scott Maxfield, held firm, with Michael Towey and Mark Reed making important headers, and Colwyn’s Danny Meadowcroft heading over from close range.
Buxton started brightly with a Tommy Agus free-kick skimming across the ground into a crowded penalty area as early as the second minute which the visitors struggled to clear.
Reed had an early chance after being put in by Neil Stevens but his effort was wide.
Scott Hartley made an excellent block after a great ball into the box had been fired goalwards by Jon Newby.
Buxton did have the ball in the back of the net six minutes later but the referee had already blown for a foul.
Just before half time, Hartley tipped another effort over the bar and a teasing ball went across the face of goal.
After the break, in one of Buxton’s best moves of the game, Kieran Lugsden linked up with Neil Stevens who then found Grant Black on the overlap.
His cross found Towey but the midfielder’s effort was saved on the line by keeper Chris Sanna.
Debutant Joe Maguire almost made a perfect start but his shot was blocked. Hartley pushed a Karl Noon effort around the post for a corner, and then stopped an effort from Damien Allen and a follow up.
A further good spell from the Bucks followed as they forced a series of corners and had two excellent chances.
