FA Trophy First Qualifying Round: Buxton FC 4, Garforth Town 2
BUXTON FC booked their place in the draw for the next round of the FA Trophy with a comfortable win over Garforth Town at the Silverlands on Saturday.
In an entertaining first 45 minutes, a brace from Kieran Lugsden, and a first goal for the club from defender Sam Liversidge, gave the Bucks a 3-0 lead over their Evo-Stik First Division North visitors.
Dempsey Smith reduced the arrears within minutes of the restart, after good work by the dangerous-looking ex-Buxton player Paul Walker, before the visitors were reduced to ten men when Darren Kelly received a straight red card for a last-man foul on Mark Reed.
The Bucks striker’s scuffed effort with less than 20 minutes to go made it 4-1. A bullet header from a corner by Matt Dempsey minutes later proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Buxton manager John Reed said afterwards: “I’m very pleased with the result today, I think it was a comfortable win.
“We made hard work of it, if I’m honest. We had a fantastic first half and scored some great goals. Overall I’m quite pleased, certainly in the attacking half with scoring four goals at home, but disappointed we conceded two.”
The draw for the next round of the FA Trophy takes place on Monday lunchtime.

The Bucks are next in action at the Silverlands on Saturday October 29, with an Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture against Burscough (kick-off 3pm).
