Bradwell hits consolation for young Millers side

FA Youth Cup Second Qualifying Round: New Mills 1, Ilkeston 5

NEW MILLS’ FA Youth Cup adventure ended with a 5-1 defeat by Ilkeston.

After Grant Tobin’s opening goal midway through the first half, the Millers looked to have been awarded a penalty but this was quickly rescinded following an offside flag.

Ilkeston scored three more before the interval through Jan Yeomans, Corey Grantham and Ryan Osborne, and missed a penalty when Tobin dragged his effort wide.

The home side’s fortunes were not helped when they were reduced to ten men two minutes into the second half when captain Jordan Cooper was adjudged to have brought down an Ilkeston attacker as the last man. Osborne made no mistake from the spot.

Alex Adrio hit the underside of the crossbar for the Millers from the game’s third penalty, before Max Bradwell confidently finished a flowing passing move to pull a goal back.

New Mills: Haworth, Chapman (Bevan), Vickers, Kelly, Potter, Cooper, Bird (Bradwell), Ramwell, Adrio (Hill), Emerson, Fairbrother. Unused subs: Waring, Evans-Clarke.
