Hope Valley League Premier Division
Hathersage 2, Tideswell Utd 4
TIDESWELL kicked off their Hope Valley League Premier Division campaign with a tricky-looking trip to Hathersage.
Jack Stelling saw a goal-bound shot cleared off the line as United started well, while Sam Shaw kept the visiting defence on its toes as he worked tirelessly for the cause.
After 25 minutes the United pressure paid off as Morris rolled the ball back for Damian Wray, who set himself before hitting a stunning drive into the top corner.
Hathersage clawed their way back into the game after half-time and Shaw broke through a very square United rearguard to beat Stanway at his near post.
Things got worse for Tideswell five minutes later as more poor defending saw a stunning shot fly past Stanway into the top corner to give Hathersage the lead.
Wray and Green combined for Nick Wilson to draw United level on the hour mark, and then with 15 minutes to play Wray’s clever back heel into the path of substitute Jack Bradbury saw the youngster register his first of the season with a good finish to the keeper’s left.
Bradbury wasn’t finished there as Rhys Hanson delivered into the centre and this time his header flew past the hapless keeper to seal the points for the Sawyeds.
Mike Grindey could have added to the scoreline but the linesman’s flag greeted him as the net bellowed again.
