New Mills Under-10s were victorious in the Stockport Metro League’s five-a-side indoor competition at the weekend.
New Mills qualified from the round-robin stages by finishing joint-top of their group, having won seven and lost one of their eight games. Goalkeeper Jay Gregory was magnificent, only letting in two goals all day.
Goals in group stages were scored by Luke Adderley (6) and Ben Stanton (4). In the semi-final, New Mills played Didsbury who were the winners of Group A.
New Mills started strongly with Will Mellor cancelling out the Didsbury attacks.
In a tight first half, Isaac Brown went close but the score remained goalless at half-time.
Early in the second half Josh Brindley fed in Luke Adderley who powered home a magnificent winner.
In the final, New Mills started well against Stockport Junior Blues, making chances for Ben Stanton and Isaac Brown with Joseph Wyatt strong in defence.
When the ball fell to player of the competition Luke Adderley he made no mistake with his eighth goal of the day to give New Mills the lead at half-time.
The fresh legs of Josh Brindley and Will Mellor were introduced and they held firm as Stockport came back strongly. Jay Gregory was awesome in nets to keep a clean sheet and give New Mills the victory.
