Buxton U11s 196-5, Dove Holes 188-6
OPENER Andrew Barry (14) was top-scorer for Dove, with other boundaries coming from Aaron Collins, Jack Green and Kieran Collins. There was also a promising debut by Ben Grindey as Dove reached 188-6.
For Buxton, Matt Bradley put in an outstanding stint behind the stumps, taking two catches and a stumping.
Fred Smith fielded superbly with two direct hits, while Benjamin Cusco was the most economical of Buxton’s bowlers conceding just three runs and being unfortunate not join wicket-takers Sam Rushworth, James Simpson, Jacob Hodgson and Matt Bradley.
Buxton’s innings opened with a good partnership featuring Kai Gilbride worth 14. Buxton’s top-scorer was Jacob Hodgson (11), with James Simpson, Matt Bradley and Daniel Capell also hitting boundaries.
Dove’s wicket-takers were Andrew Barry, Aaron Collins, Jack Flint and Kieran Collins. The only maiden was bowled by Brandon Bradbury.
Against fine bowling by Reece Johnson, Buxton’s last pair of Fred Smith and Daniel Capell batted out the last overs with great judgement, concentrating on keeping their wickets intact to protect their winning position.
This was a great match by two local sides playing good cricket in an excellent spirit.
Compstall U9s 169, Buxton U9s 191
IN THEIR first away match of the season, Buxton played a series of three matches against two Compstall teams and came away with a fine aggregate victory consisting of two wins (98-85 and 51-30) and one defeat (42-54). Top scorers were Joel Clayton (including 16 in one over) and Daniel Taylor.
The pick of the bowlers was Frankie Heathcote, who picked up two wickets and also held two catches.
James Tighe also took a wicket and was unlucky not to get more with some accurate bowling.
Some good shots were played by all batsmen, including sixes from Adam Munden and Noah McCahill.
Young players Sol Gilbride and Rui Oates both made excellent debuts.
