The Essex pace attack dominated a dramatic opening session interrupted by rain by reducing Derbyshire to 57 for 6 from 18.2 overs on the opening morning of their LV=County Championship Division Two match with Essex at Chelmsford.

After being out in to bat, they lost Billy Godleman bowled by Jesse Ryder in the first over and the New Zealander later trapped Wayne Madsen leg before, both batsmen having failed to score. Jamie Porter removed Ben Slater for a single , Chesney Hughes for 14 and Scott Elstone without score to leave Derbyshire in total disarray at 26 for 5.

Wes Durston and Shiv Thakor doubled the score but just before rain halted play, Matt Salisbury had Durston caught behind from his first delivery with the total on 53.

At lunch: Shiv Thakor 13 not out, Wayne White 2 not out. Porter has figures of 3 for 14 from 7 overs.
