Johnny Marsden took 5-15 and Mark Hill 4-59 as Buxton 1st XI moved out of the relegation places of the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League Division One on Saturday with a crushing victory at home to Newton.

Batting first, the Bucks set the visitors 171 to win. Ben Marsden (44) was the main contributor, but a 50 partnership between Nick Smith (35 not out) and Johnny Marsden (26) was crucial in the latter stages.

Newton were the slight favourites at the tea interval, but a destructive spell of pace bowling from Marsden, where all his victims were clean-bowled, was well supported by Mark Hill, as Newton were skittled for a lowly 91.

l Next up for the Bucks is a trip to Broadbottom on Saturday.
