With the fell season well underway, eight Buxton AC athletes took part in the tough Kinder Downfall race held out of Hayfield last weekend.

In the race, which is over a testing 9.5 miles and includes almost 2,000 feet of climbing, Jason Bennett was first home for Buxton in 29th position.

He was followed by teammates Richard Bouglas 82nd, Pete Bailey 110th, Bryan McKenna 129th, Frank Golden 213th, Dave Forshaw 222nd, Richard Goff 267th and Bev Golden 268th.

Buxton-based Rick Houghton claimed 12th position in the race, while Mark Pursell, running for Pennine, just pipped Bennett to the finish line in 28th place.

Elsewhere, newcomer Ben Light continues to impress after he secured a second-placed finish at the Lyme Park Parkrun on Saturday.

There have been some impressive results from the Junior Section in recent weeks, most notably at the Rivington Pike Fell Race, the latest in the English Fell Championships.

Alex Ediker finished ninth, Elliot Meylan 21st, Will Tighe 32nd and Jacob Buckley 33rd.

• The next Pavilion Gardens 5K event will take place at 9am on Saturday 10 May, starting from the Burlington Road end of Broad Walk.
