Celebs get on their bikes

OVER 600 cyclists – including Formula One driver Mark Webber and ex-England Footballer Geoff Thomas – competed in a cycling challenge around the Peak District on Saturday.

The Cycling Plus Sportive, supported by Pacific Outdoor Equipment, was the flagship road cycling event of the BikeRadar Live weekend, held at Donington Park and attended by thousands of bike enthusiasts.

Setting off on Saturday morning, the riders cycled circular routes which started and finished at Donington.

They could choose from either a 100-mile route or a 100-kilometre route.

Both routes were designed to use country lanes and other minor roads as much as possible.

Among the participants was Mark Webber, who drives for Red Bull Racing and is a keen cyclist.

The event was held in association with the Geoff Thomas foundation, a charity devoted to ways of effectively treating cancer.
