Buxton 1st XI 135-8, Hawk Green 1st XI 204 all out
STRUGGLING Buxton 1st XI followed up a brilliant opening spell of bowling against Hawk Green on Saturday with a poor batting display to slump to yet another defeat.
Having won the toss and put Hawk Green into bat, Buxton put on a show of class bowling to reduce their visitors to 14-5, with opening bowlers Hill and J Frohwien taking two and three wickets respectively.
But Hawk Green showed why they are in the top three in the league by making a steady recovery through a mixture of neat running and expansive shots, with Blackhurst (77 not out) instrumental.
The Bucks continued to take regular wickets, bowling the visitors out for an impressive 204.
Buxton’s opening batsmen Marsden and Griffin set off in pursuit of the total, but Griffin fell early. Marsden (22) slowly pushed on with the help of new batsman Belfield.
After Marsden departed, Belfield and Frohwien attempted to get things moving but Belfield (25) was run-out while attempting a quick single.
The Bucks were now struggling and within a few overs were reduced to 73-6. Betts and Bentley were now at the crease and, with over 65 years of experience, began to shuffle the score along again.
Buxton seemed back on track when Betts was bowled by Needham. With only seven overs left the game was already lost, but Bentley (25) and Poole battled on to get as many batting points as possible before the overs ran out.
