INTREPID cricketers have completed a challenging sponsored walk around all 22 grounds in the Peak Sports Derbyshire & Cheshire League.
Members of High Lane Cricket Club completed the walk last weekend to raise money for cancer hospital The Christie and to improve facilities at their own cricket ground.
Ian Halford, Chairman of High Lane Cricket Club, said the walk was the brainchild of club member George Whitney, who “suggested we did some fundraising within our community”.
“With a charity like The Christie, I don’t think you can find someone who hasn’t been touched by cancer,” Ian explained.
He added: “I think a lot of the walkers are very sore after the walk, but other than that they are very pleased and I think it has gone very well.”
The walk was split into two stages, between Old Glossop and High Lane on the Saturday and from Buxton to High Lane on the Sunday.
In total, it is expected to raise around £3,500, which will be split between The Christie and a nets fund to help improve facilities at High Lane CC.
Local businesses were among those supporting the walkers, helping with sponsorship and providing transport.
