A promising talent
THREE Buxton Cycling Club members competed in the North West Regional Road Race Championships around Clitheroe, Lancashire, on Sunday.
And 16-year-old Laurie Brooking, a member of Britain's Cycling Talent Team for up and coming youth and junior riders, fought off stiff competition to achieve a creditable third place in the junior category race. He completed the undulating course of 66 miles, in temperatures of 27 degrees, in two hours, 59 minutes and 11 seconds.
The third and fourth Category Race saw Sam Clark active throughout, getting in a three-man break on the second lap of six, only to be caught with two laps to go.
With just half a lap remaining, Lee Baldwin made a break which saw him successfully finish in second place, with Sam sprinting across the finish line in seventh place.
Meanwhile, Mostyn Bullock beat his own round Fairfield Common record in The Len Eyre Trophy last Thursday by three seconds, with a time of 20 minutes and 28 seconds, and an average speed of 26.35 mph for the nine-mile course.
