Isherwood ton inspires Vale

ANOTHER fine Saturday allowed all games to be played to a finish in the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League with, again, some fine performances in all four divisions.
Division One

Birch Vale won the toss and decided to bat at home to Newton and thanks to 101 from opener Danny Isherwood posted a reasonable total of 193 - 8. Mark Barnard was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 - 58. In reply the innings never really got going as Rick Johnson (5 - 32) saw Newton all out for 129.

Dinting were in belligerent mood at home to Hawk Green as they made a commanding 284 - 6. Matt Blood (78), Glen Draper (74) and Matt Coleman (42 not out) all contributing. Malc Strong was the only bowler with any real success taking 4 - 86. In reply Paul Needham drove his way to 69, but Jarrod Massey (4 - 18) Andy Logan (3 - 61) and S. Garlick (3 - 47) ensured that Hawk Green were all out for 167.

Chapel batted first away at Hadfield and set a challenging 195 all out. Chris Durham making 45, whilst Darren Jarrett took 5 - 59 for the home team. In reply Neil Pheasey took 3 - 33 and James Hawtin took 3 - 50 to leave Hadfield 144 all out.

In another tight game at Hazel Grove the home team were soon under pressure as Martin Harris took 4 - 38, to leave Grove on 170 - 8, despite 47 from man in form Nick Heywood. In reply Damien Weatherhead made a classy 55, but 4 - 44 from Rehman in a 17 over spell saw Tintwistle fall agonisingly 6 runs short on 164 all out.

Compstall met Stockport headlong at Beech Road, and thanks to 62 from skipper David Bailey and 33 from Mark Richards posted a superb 182 - 7. James Dunley took 3 - 27, and old timer Bob Cooke spun his way to 3 - 39. In reply C. Connolly made an impressive 45 not out, but 4 - 41 from Mark Richards saw Stockport left on 164 - 7 when time was called.

Division Two

Dove Holes proved that the show must go on after last weeks defeat as they travelled to Broadbottom and posted a mammoth 265 - 7. Rob Jones making 56, and Dave Cartledge 72, the top scorers. In reply Matt Johnson took 4 - 20 and Matt Baldwin 4 - 15 as Broadbottom were all out for just 61.

Buxworth entertained Romiley and despite 68 from Lee Spencer, could only post 141 all out, mainly due to the bowling of A. Barber who took 7 - 31. In reply Dave Oldland made 54 as Romiley cruised home for the loss of two wickets.

Old Glossop travelled to Charlesworth but could only make 150 all out. Elliott Morley doing the damage taking 5 - 55. In a dismal reply Andy King got a regular breakthrough as he finished with figures of 5 - 14 as the hosts were all out for just 54.

New Mills travelled to Mellor and posted a respectable 182 - 8. The truculent Phil Longhorn back in the runs with a well made 73, whilst ably backed by Andrew Holmes with 44. Steve Harrison the pick of the bowlers with 5 - 35. In reply Graham Boden mowed his way 51, but two audacious stumpings from keeper Mike Collinge, who is just returning after three years out with a serious eye injury, and 6 - 41 from the ever improving Holmes saw Mellor all out for 117.

Mottram took first knock at home to High Lane and set 198 - 7. D. Kendrick making a solid 69. In reply A. Moulsdale (71), Ravi Patel (42) and D. Wilson (42 not out) put up a stern challenge, but 6 - 44 from Richard Windsor saw the visitors run chase end on 178 - 8.

In a tight game at Woodley, the hosts batted first and were all out for 180. Gary Picken making 44 whilst Ian Morris took 4 - 61 and G. Jones with 4 - 32 were the pick of the bowlers for Hollingworth. In the run chase Michael Knight made 35 whilst Sean Morris smashed 58, and despite 3 - 39 from Neil Bradford and 3 - 46 from P. Coffey, Hollingworth crept home by 1 wicket in the 47th over.

Division Three

Compstall batted first at home to Stockport and had 76 not out from Neil Homer to thank as they posted 193 - 6. In a lacklustre reply Jonathan Lindley claimed 5 - 42 and P. Jackson 3 - 31 as Stockport were all out for 108.

Whaley Bridge were inserted at Hayfield and despite 37 from Andrew Gibson, could only post 138 all out. Jim Adamson taking 4 - 48 with the ball. In reply Shane Furness made 47 backed by Dave Wood with 36 as the home team won by 8 wickets.

Hawk Green batted first at home to Dinting and posted an excellent 299 - 5. Andrew Bickley making an impressive 93 backed by the Hallas brothers, Shane who made 85 and Lee who finished on 54 not out. In reply Peter Bright more made a handy 77, but 5 - 98 from Andrew Davies and 5 - 18 from Mike Holmes saw Dinting all out for 162.

Birch Vale had one vision as they took first knock away at Newton. Young Robinson smashed his way to 108 in his sides total of 298 - 8. In reply Newton were never in the hunt losing regular wickets as they capitulated to 117 all out.

Division Four

Chapel took first knock at home to Charlesworth and despite 62 from Ian Durham, could only post 140 - 9. Gareth Evans taking 6 - 34 with the ball. In reply E. Shuffle bottom made 49 not out as Charlesworth made it home for the loss of seven wickets.

Dove Holes went run mad on the moon as they made 227 - 5, Mick Johnson making 75 backed by D. Jones with 48. In reply J. Gregory had impressive figures of 5 - 11 as Broadbottom were all out for just 52.

High Lane batted first at home to Hazel Grove and despite 78 from Steve Pigeon and 38 from J. Thames, could only post 145 all out. Chris Yates was the pick of the bowlers with 6 - 54. In reply Dave Harris made 74 as Grove won for the loss of eight wickets.

Hollingworth played host to Woodley and scored 226 - 6. L. Chapman top scoring with 64, while veteran Mike Hawkins took 4 - 84. In reply, the Woodley batsmen never got to grips with C. Hornsby as he took 5 - 26 as Woodley were all out for 105.

New Mills batted first at home to Mellor and had 39 from Pink Yates and 35 from Phil Jackson to thank for their total of 163 all out. In a tense finale Dave Loma (48) and W. Roche (47) did their best for Mellor but 7 - 39 from the tireless Shaun Coverlet saw Mellor all out for 142.

Romiley were inserted at home to Buxworth and posted a healthy 217 - 4. Graham Parry made 91 and D. Oldland 51. In reply D. Stott took 3 - 19 as Buggy were all out for 97.
