BUXTON'S Christmas switch-on switched over to the Pavilion Gardens for the first time this year, with a host of events on the Promenade and in the Octagon.
The move to the town centre from the Market Place appeared to do the trick for the 2,500 people who turned up to see Buxton Opera House Fairy Godmother Denise Nolan perform the ceremony.

High Peak Mayor Robin Baldry, who had had reservations about the move, proclaimed it a success, saying: "The entertainment was spectacular and created for everyone a fantastic atmosphere for the start of the festivities."
