The Hayfield RBL branch would like to thank the people of Hayfield for their recent generosity in helping the branch raise more than £7,000 for the start of their annual poppy appeal fundraising.

This has been the best start so far already exceeding last year’s final total of £6,500. Whether it’s through buying a poppy or raffle ticket to supporting the recent fundraising concert, the committee would like to thank-you all for contributing and getting us off to a great start.

Thanks also go to the shops, pubs and businesses who kindly displayed the collecting boxes and also Hayfield Primary School and St Matthew’s School for their generous donations. As we are a small village we can’t organise any supermarket or street collections so rely solely on the generosity of the residents and on branch fundraising activities during the year to boost the funds. All the monies raised goes directly towards supporting our armed forces, veterans, their families and dependents. Although we are a national charity people would be surprised at the amount of direct support and welfare provided to veterans within the High Peak area.

A special thanks to Dawn, Lynne, John, Julie and Janet who distributed and collected the poppy boxes.

The branch poppy organiser Dawn Blakemore commented: “This is a great start to the year and with the two fundraising events planned for next year we are looking forward to a record-breaking year yet again.”

Once again, a very big thank you to everyone who contributed and the Hayfield residents have certainly ‘Remembered’
