ALLOTMENTS have never been so popular but for green-fingered Whaley Bridge residents their success has led to a 47-strong waiting list.
Town Council Chairman Jon Goldfinch said those on the list were facing an indefinite wait as there was not a high turnover of allotments.
Now the Council is to investigate ways in which it can create more allotments.
An additional area of land close to the current site is one possibility but the land is very boggy and would need a lot of remedial work.
Cllr Goldfinch suggested that large raised beds could be created but that grant funding would be needed to carry out the project.
Another option put forward would be to see if any local farmers have any spare land they would be willing to rent to the council.
