Wormhill’s Well Dressing festival gets underway today (Saturday) with the blessing of the wells.

The annual ceremony kick-starts this year’s event at 7pm at the church yard well and is followed afterwards by the Brindley Well blessing on the village green.

Also on the opening night there will be live music provided by Fairfield Brass Band, while a barbecue and social will follow the well blessings.

Attendees are invited to take their own drink with admission to the village hall free, from 8pm.

Other events that take place during the week include a Whist Drive, priced at £2, in the village hall from 8pm on Wednesday, September 2.

The following Saturday (September 5) there will be a hoe-down at the village hall from 8.30pm.

Again, people are invited to take along their own drinks, with adult tickets priced at £5 and under-12s costing £3.

Throughout the week there will be a chance to see the displays at the church on a daily basis.
