A Second World War hero finally received a medal for his efforts during the Battle of the Atlantic – nearly 70 years after the war has ended.

Sam Pearson, of Buxton, is one of a group of naval seamen who took part in convoys to Russia during the Battle of the Atlantic who have been awarded the Arctic Star for their bravery.

After waiting decades for his medal, the 92–year–old said: “It’s wonderful to finally have it.”
