REPAIR work is underway at a Buxton church following the success of a fundraising appeal.
Dry rot and problems with the building’s roof have threatened the future of the 150-year-old Christ Church in Burbage.
Following a three-year campaign - and boosted by an urgent plea for cash in the Advertiser last November - the church is now well over half-way towards hitting its £200,000 target.
Church warden Joyce Allwright said she was delighted the church was in a position to undertake the first two stages of the work.
“My thanks go out to all the people who have supported us and made it possible by supporting all our efforts in raising the money and the grants which we have received towards the cost of the repairs,” said Mrs Allwright.
“We need a little more fundraising as we are just a bit short for the last two stages of the work, which will hopefully be completed next year.”
Anyone wishing to make a small donation can send it to Mrs Allwright at 2 Arbour Grove, Buxton, SK17 9AF. Cheques should be made payable to the Christ Church Roof Fund Buxton PCC.
