A WOMAN rescued from a fire at her home by two passing police officers has died in hospital.
The officers who were on patrol in the Hope Valley yesterday morning, Sunday 8, came across a house on fire on Castleton Road in Hope
A police spokesman said: “The two officers rescued the sole female occupant, a 69-year-old, from the property and administered first aid.”
The woman was subsequently taken to Sheffield Northern General Hospital in a critical condition. She died on Sunday evening.
Fire crews from Chapel, Hathersage and Bradwell were called to tackle the blaze after the officers raised the alarm at 11.25am.
The semi-detached two-storey property was well alight when they arrived and using breathing apparatus the firefighters fought the blaze from outside the property
The road which has been closed while emergency services dealt with the fire was re-opened just before 1pm.
A joint investigation is underway between the police and fire service into the cause of the fire which is not believed to be suspicious.
