A walker suffered a suspected fractured leg after falling while crossing a stile in Castleton at the weekend.

The 51-year-old man from Gloucestershire was walking on the footpath between the Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern with his wife on Saturday when he slipped, sustaining a suspected lower leg fracture.

Twenty one members of the joint Buxton and Edale Teams Snatch Squad attended the scene and the man was treated by Edale team paramedics, given pain relief and splintered, before being evacuated by stretcher to the waiting ambulance at Blue John Cavern. He was then taken to Stepping Hill Hospital for further treatment.
