A town council has decided to give priority for allotment plots to residents who have helped regenerate the site.
The decision was made by members of Whaley Bridge Town Council during a discussion of the Sunnybank Allotment Site.
Councillor John Swift said there was a long list of people waiting for allotment plots, but of the first ten people only two had been helping with the ongoing regeneration of the site, off Goyt Road, Whaley Bridge.
He added: “I wrote to them and we have had not a single one of them apply to help.”
Cllr Swift said the lack of interest had disappointed him, adding that there had been several people involved with the work who were further up the list and unlikely to get a plot any time soon.
Councillors voted in favour of a proposal to move those who had helped with the project to the top of the list.
